Paule Lagace

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“Painting is for me the quest for today’s world. The expressions of my characters are important, what they communicate, their personality, their actuality. They live today and move forward with me through life.”

BIOGRAPHY

“At 20 years old, my characters were very soft and sentimental; since then, they went through and are still going through all sorts of stages. They came to Montreal at the same time as I did in 1979. Children in 1981, sensuality, joy, passion, misfortune, sadness, travels... In fact, painting is the continuation of life, the quest for... What’s important is to go forward and to always search further.”

Born in Chicoutimi, Quebec in 1951.

Paule Lagacé comes from a family where painting has always been highly considered. Her father showed a keen interest for the works of Quebec artists, giving her numerous opportunities, since her early childhood, to mingle with painters. She was encouraged to express her creativity without constraint, which may explain the personal character of her art.

Paule Lagacé is one of this new generation of painters who goes off the beaten track to innovate. Paule does not paint for a living; she lives for painting, which makes all the difference in the work of an artist.
